Art of Mapping

The Art of Mapping, a solo exhibition at the Royal Engineers Museum in Kent, was a significant event supported by Arts Council England. It was curated to coincide with the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo, drawing together history, artistry, and innovation. The exhibition offered visitors a unique opportunity to engage with the legacy of military cartography while celebrating the remarkable achievements of the Royal Engineers.
Central to The Art of Mapping was the compelling story of the Waterloo map, an artifact held within the Royal Engineers Museum collection. The exhibition not only highlighted the artistry and technical expertise of the Royal Engineers, but also showcased a diverse range of paper objects and installations. These exhibition pieces, crafted from maps or inspired by mapping techniques, served as tangible connections between past and present. Through interactive displays and creative interpretations, the exhibition vividly brought to life the historical importance of the Battle of Waterloo and the enduring relevance of paper maps in a digital age.
